Prisoners in Asia and the Pacific, 1993

The Advisory Committee of the Asia and Pacific Conference of Correctional Administrators (APCCA), at a meeting held in Kuala Lumpur in August 1993, requested that the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) endeavor to collect and compile relevant correctional statistics from the region for distribution at the XIII APCCA in Hong Kong in November 1993.

Subsequently, the co-operation of all nations in the region was sought and a draft bulletin was prepared for the Hong Kong conference. This has been now extended with the addition of more data. The statistical tables included in this publication represent a summary of the information that was received. Unless otherwise indicated the dates reflect the situation as at 30 June 1993.
